Emilie Serain at the Olympics!

W2N0Dwebsite At last, Emilie Serain has qualified for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Skier-cross. This young women from Leysin had a very tough season leading up to the Vancouver Olympic Games. She trained very hard throughout the summer. When the first world cup races took place, she managed to be in the top ten most events.

As great as this seemed, her coaches could not guarantee a spot in Vancouver. During one of the last qualifying races in France, she had a terrible fall which tore her ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) in her knee. Her 3 year goal and dream was chattered. After visiting with her doctor, he explained that a few racers had participated in the Olympics with such a handicap. It would all depend on an important amount of physiotherapy and physical training to solidify her knee. After three weeks of important progression, her coaches announced that she would not leave with the team for the opening ceremony and would have to participate in a European Cup race in front of a doctor from the Swiss Olympic committee and prove a capability to ski.

With emotional ups and downs, Emily managed to give it one last shot and show that she could do it! Today, Emilie has made it to Vancouver and is part of the Swiss National Olympic Team. Her race will take place on Tuesday February 23rd between 19:00 & 23:00 CET. For those who wish to live this moment, Hefti Sports, Leysin, the Ski Club and the Tourist Office invite you at the Leysin Toboganning park from 19:00 for some free Hot Wine, Big screen TV's and perhaps a medalist!
